First Voyager launched, more to follow

With the launch of the #voyager61, the first in a brand-new line of luxury mini- superyachts, the #vandenhoven yard in the Netherlands has made true its promise to offer something genuinely different. Designed and built to allow fans of this pedigree brand to travel significantly further at higher speeds, the Voyager range covers every conceivable wish for a high-end motoryacht between 50 and 80 feet.

“Now, Voyager, sail thou forth, to seek and find.” These famous words by American poet
Walt Whitman may have been written in the 1890s but they perfectly capture the sense of adventure that owners of a #vandenhoven Voyager motoryacht will enjoy in the 2020s. Excitement too, because the Dutch yard has successfully channelled the #excellence of construction and finish on which its fine reputation is based into an impressive all-aluminium fast-displacement #yacht that enables long distances to be covered in good time and serious comfort.

Inspired to go further

Van den Hoven has successfully carved out a niche over the past two decades among connoisseurs of fine cruising, creating around 60 fully custom steel motoryachts between 15 and 24 metres. The yard’s clients already embraced the exclusive blend of space, finishing, comfort and performance found in this size range. They have also been the inspiration behind the Voyager concept, which is being built in aluminium in order to meet a specific request.

“We have been regularly hearing from clients who are looking to travel further and get to their chosen destinations faster,” explains yard director #bartvandenhoven. “At the same time, they have no desire to sacrifice any of the luxury and comfort they associate with the Van der Hoven brand. Areas like the Mediterranean Sea, Scandinavia and the British coast are increasingly popular. A fast-displacement #yacht made from aluminium is ideal. With a top speed of 22.5 knots the distances quickly seem shorter. And the longer passages are made in considerable comfort in the kind of high-end surroundings you’d associate with a #superyacht.”

Designed to last

In addition to client consultation, #vandenhoven invested considerable time and energy into several years of R&D to ensure that this new flagship line would meet the yard’s stringent quality template. It also led to a close cooperation with leading experts from the Dutch #superyacht scene.

“The Voyager concept was developed in partnership with the hugely experienced designer René van der Velden,” explains #bartvandenhoven. “He has successfully managed to retain the characteristic lines of a #vandenhoven and addressed our requirements for lots of space for the interior and moving around the #yacht. The performance also had to make sailing long distance at high speeds a pleasure.”

Speed and comfort

Designing a hull that synthesises comfort, speed and low fuel consumption was obviously a key element of this performance and teamwork paid dividends here too. Award-winning Dutch naval architect Fred Dorresteijn has drawn a hull with the smallest possible stern surface. The keel line ascends from forward to aft, minimising resistance and swell when going slower than hull speed.

Looking good

The #voyager61 has been given a beautiful light-blue livery, one of many personal choices open to clients. The #vandenhoven signature look is instantly recognisable from a distance within a timeless, elegant and sturdy #design that stands out from the crowd. The #voyager61 also showcases how the concept makes excellent use of al fresco spaces. A large flybridge comfortably accommodates eight #people who will enjoy the pleasures of the outside galley and the sun loungers. The aft deck is a pleasant spot for shaded relaxation in the open air while the foredeck is a fabulous spot to watch the world go by from the large sun beds.

The interior #design offers the finest possible blend of space, lightness and transparency, all within a very comfortable living area. A large open galley on the main deck is connected to the lounge and dining room, with one flowing piece of furniture bringing simplicity to the layout while generating a lot of space in optical terms. In a similar vein, the lower deck uses glass walls and doors in the bathrooms to create a unified space. An extensive use of glass in the superstructure complements the light and airy ambience on the #voyager61 while guaranteeing superb views.

Next steps

The instant success of this first Voyager has confirmed the yard’s decision to unveil the designs for 50, 71 and 80 models, with a Voyager 50 Coupe already under construction. Like all Van den Hovens, every aspect of the build is covered in-house, assuring clients maximum efficiency, a competitive price and a genuinely personalised service. The use of aluminium gives future Voyager owners a wealth of bespoke choices in terms of layout, while the greater speed offered by the #design and hull can be further optimised by a range of custom propulsion installations.

Boat show debut for #voyager61

The brand-new #voyager61 will be presented to the general public for the first time at the Hiswa te Water boat show in the Netherlands from 1 to 5 September 2021. Head for stand B-035 on the VIP quay to see this impressive innovation with your own eyes.
