Coronavirus: Italian Offshore Legend Tullio Abbate dies aged 76

Tullio Abbate passed away this morning at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan at the age of 76. He had contracted the coronavirus and had been hospitalized in Milan. In his career, he has collected an incredible number of successes both as a pilot and as a builder.

Tullio Abbate, a life of success and speed

Born in 1944 it was one of the symbols of Italian motorboating and Lake Como. Son of art of the great Guido Abbate, in his career as a pilot Tullio has won everything from Europeans to the World Cup and also the “Centomiglia del Lario” race. In 1969 he opened his own shipyard with which over the years he has produced more than 8000 boats for speed-loving customers such as F1 pilot Prost and Senna or for sportsmen such as the “twins of the goal”, Vialli and Mancini.

A life of speed and success like few others in the nautical world. Among his myths was, Don Aronow, that he also considered one of the “father of the offshore”. Like Aronow, he too had an incredible career both as a pilot and a builder.

Among the shipyard’s cult boats are models such as the Sea Star and the Offshore 36, the Executive and the Exception.

Farewell Tullio!
