The Cantiere Navale Italia's new luxury tender Kifaru Baby debuts at the 2015 Salone Nautico Genova

Cantiere Navale Italia after the debut at the next Cannes Yachting Festival (8/13 September 2015) and Monaco Yacht Show (23/26 September 2015) will be in Genova at Salone Nautico 2015 with the new Kifaru BABY – a completely aluminum 13m (43') open class vessel that stands out for its aesthetic, technological and functional features, a truly unique offering.

KIFARU BABY by CANTIERE NAVALE ITALIA

The Kifaru BABY is noteworthy for her sporting lines and her construction specifications, worthy of a super-yacht, with a superstructure completely in aluminum and complete customization possibilities.

Her internal and external lines, coupled with the design of her hull, are completely Italian and coordinated by the famous international yacht designer Luca Dini. An essential choice is clearly visible in her pure and essential forms, leaving the deck clear of accessories, visible only when desired. “A fighter plane without wings” was how Luca Dini described her, “designed for expert owners who can readily recognize quality, technical innovation and refined styling, and who are looking for a compact yacht or an exclusive luxury tender. She is a small super yacht, sporting and high performance, while at the same time lightweight and efficient – a beautiful smart-boat!”

ON BOARD KIFARU BABY

Among her characteristic elements are the elegant retractable features that leave her decks clear of any accessories that might create bother aboard. Her dashboard is an absolutely new innovation, created by the CNI design office in collaboration with Naviop: the state of the art dashboard is a smooth single block with only the wheel extruding. A hi-tech bridge, characterized by innovation, integration and automation, expressly designed for an owner who wants to use his yacht without a skipper in complete privacy. Logical, intuitive and digital, it will also be equipped with the best safety systems for any emergency while at sea, permitting the owner to maintain complete control even in dangerous situations.

On the foredeck a telescopic table of inlaid teak emerges when needed and is completed by a carbon bimini-top that provides shade not only for the table but also the other tables and lounge chairs for socializing. Astern there is a shaded sun-deck with complete walk-around that takes us to the teak bathing platform at the transom, complete with a full height shower on a retractable pole. Another great on-board attraction is the hydraulic gangway, 1.2m long and 1m wide, unique for its size and comfort for a yacht of this size and designed in-house by the CNI.

A completely aluminum hard-top houses security and communications gear while a beautiful full-crystal windscreen once again unites form and function in the spirit of the BABY. Below decks there is a cabin with a large king size bed, spacious bathroom with separate shower and a full accessory galley.

ALUMINUM AND YACHT DESIGN

The CNI had a strong desire to work with aluminum, the most sophisticated, lightweight and strong material available to aim the BABY to the market segment of competent nautically mature owners who are looking for a uniquely designed vessel, with avant-guarde technology and no compromise construction with the specifications of a super-yacht.

The Kifaru BABY uses Series 5000 (Paralum 5083H11) aluminum alloy, with magnesium to guarantee exceptional resistance to corrosion, especially in marine environments, added to its already exceptional qualities for welding and shaping.

The pedigree for aluminum presents us with further practical advantages, beginning with exceptionally low maintenance. It is also very strong despite its light weight, a further advantage enabling the use of ever thinner sheets. This gives us increased navigation efficiency and the possibility to install smaller propulsion systems without compromising performance and fuel consumption. Two Yanmar 370hp diesels were therefore chosen and coupled to two stern drives, giving the BABY a top speed close to 45 knots. Shaft propulsion is also available.

Hull shape is a planing V with a variable dead-rise angle of 16.8 degrees. The Kifaru  BABY also has lengthwise hull strakes to further improve dynamic stability.

Hull design was undertaken with the support of an ample series of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) simulations giving her optimal lines and calculating performance, resistance, asset and water flow at various speeds. CNI has also paid particular attention to the hull's entry and to chine proportions and positioning, to achieve a comfortable and maneuverable performance hull.

The CNI's product conception for the Kifaru BABY was born from lightweight alloy super-yacht construction, concentrating in a compact size all the features of a longer, more expensive, and above all, higher quality level yacht. Complete customization options are included.

BABY was designed as a luxury tender, but can also be chosen for her qualities as a support vessel, for singles or couples, or as a day boat for friends or for short cruises.
