Partnering with the Thailand government, the second edition of the #thailandyachtshow at Ao Po Grand Marina in Phang Nga Bay Nov 15-18 saw no less than 55 vessels, including 18 superyachts, from 60 exhibitors on display.
“Our aim is to position Thailand as the natural destination capital for yachting in Asia, as well as the preferred winter destination for the global #superyacht fleet,” Managing Director Andy Treadwell addresses the mission of the show at the Opening Ceremony, sponsored by Sevenstar #yacht Transport. He believed that attracting charter superyachts and stimulating yachting in Thailand can generate some positive economic impact for the country for it will create jobs, shape a more high-end image and encourage inward investment.
The onshore Exhibition Pavilion highlighted luxury lifestyle companies, Phuket property and plenty of nautical ancillaries, while the Demo Platform by Java Yachting held live demonstrations of dinghy sailing, SUP, dragon boating and kayaking.
On board the 90m Lauren L was the exclusive party from Titan Brokers, while much celebration was also on board the 41m Norman Forster-designed Ocean Emerald. Burgess Yachts invited guests for an evening on board the 50m Northern Sun. As the show’s biggest exhibitor, Lee Marine also hosted a party for its clients and industry partners along with its showcase of yachts from Ferretti Custom Line, CRN, CdM and others. Multihull Solutions displayed Saba 50 and Lucia 40 catamarans by Fountaine Pajot as well as offered sea trials of Corsair Pulse 600 racing trimaran.
Boat Lagoon Yachting brought eight-yacht line-up from brands including Princess Yachts, Jeanneau and Prestige Yachts, featuring Princess 32m. Asia dealership Simpson Marine returned and presented the Italian-built #superyacht – Sanlorenzo 46Steel Forwin.
Dealers and Brokers aside, visitors also saw Sunbrella, the manufacturer of outdoor fabrics that can be used on yachts, as well as the Galileo Maritime Academy, a young enterprise on the way to becoming the top-notch maritime academy in the world.
Thailand Yachting Forum was held during the show, presenting the knowledge and expertise of the Thai government ministries, the Thai Marine Business Association and the TYS show team.
“Thailand needs more visibility around the world,” says Gulf Charters CEO Ron Patston. “The #thailandyachtshow and the #thailandyachtingforum are doing a good job of spreading the word. Not just about Phuket – the islands around Koh Chang are some of the best cruising grounds in the world, and we are here to help make more noise about it. #thailandyachtshow is the place to see and be seen in Thailand. It provides a good boost for the marine leisure industry in this part of the world.”
The third edition of TYS will be held Dec 14-17 2017 by the organisers of the Singapore #yacht Show.
